Anxiety & Depression: A Therapeutic Approach

I like to call the struggle with anxiety and depression, The Chicken or The Egg Scenario. Which came first?

Very often, these diagnoses occur simultaneously, beginning with one, and the other soon following suit. When we’re not feeling emotionally well, it’s unclear why because our symptoms are blurred. Is it anxiety or depression? Or both?

We may struggle to pinpoint where the feelings are coming from, desperately sifting through an internal inventory to uncover clues.

I always approach the problem by evaluating each client’s level of emotional stability through various therapeutic techniques. This provides me with a blueprint for evaluating the nature and depth of the problem. From there, I can focus on teaching the appropriate coping skills to the client. It’s definitely not a one-size-fits-all.  Each client is unique and needs specific and defined therapy to address their individual needs.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is among the techniques I employ with my clients. This newer therapy encompasses mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy. Through this rich work, clients attain a new-found perspective to take action and reclaim their lives with strength and confidence.
